QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:
1. What are the issues confronting the community? Why do you think those issues you mentioned are happening in the community?
  • Illegal drugs, curfew of the underage and students and out of school youth are three of the many issues of the community. Strict security must be implemented and the residents should also cooperate with the Barangay’s rules and regulations.
  • Flood is the main disaster because of the filthy sewages and irresponsibility of the residents when it comes to their garbage. During the era of Fidel Ramos, the budget allocated in Sampaloc was corrupted and it is now manifested. If the sewages are properly installed, the problem will lessen.
  • The barangay’s water is not safe sometimes due to the rust of water pipes and it needs replacement. Air Pollution because of over population of vehicles and parking space of residents are also issues. Residents park their vehicles on the public road.
2. What possible solutions can the local government do to address these issues?
  • Discipline among people are highly needed and also cooperation in the rules and regulations. If there is an implemented law, it should always be done whenever needed. Best example is the rules in littering. If a person really threw his garbage improperly, barangay officials should take action on it even if they think that it is just a small problem.
3. Kindly relate your discussion to the disaster situation of our country
  • Corruption is one of the problems in our country. If the alotted budget for the projects are properly and wisely used, there will be no problem in our sewage and roads and flood will be prevented.

4. What are your realizations and insights learned after the kwentuhan and community walk?
  • As a student, I should be more aware about what is really happening in our barangay. Living in a dormitory located at the Juaning Street, I became nervous when I knew the fact that Juaning Street is the high risk-area of fire and earthquake due to the high buildings of dormitories and establishments and its narrow street. Before inquiring for a dormitory, one must ask first the barangay about which of the streets are high-risks areas.

5. Based on the facts above, why do we need to address the issue of disasters in our country? How can we address it?
  • For the preparedness of the people and equipments so that they can be ready and alert anytime. Also to have a solution in every problem and correct what is needed. Social media is a powerful tool nowadays to address these such issues.

Best Practice : Having trash cans in every street.

Safest Place: Navarra Street where the Barangay Hall is located and also the appearance of tricycle drivers. If ever something will happen, there are tricycle
drivers who can help.

Dangerous Place: Juaning Street because of its narrow road and high buildings near to each other.
